What is there to do by the Vistula in Warsaw before you board – or once the boat is back at the quay? The Warsaw Vistula boulevards on the left bank, the beaches on the Praga side and the pedestrian and cycle footbridge mean the riverside alone can fill an entire evening: from a stroll and group photos, through gathering the whole gang, to a fountain show after dark.
In this guide we explain what’s where, how to get from one bank to the other and how to plan the start of your party so that nobody ends up wandering along Wisłostrada – the busy riverside road – with a present tucked under their arm.
Warsaw’s Vistula boulevards – section by section
The left-bank boulevards are made up of several named sections. It’s worth knowing their names, as they make it much easier to arrange where to meet:
- Bulwar Flotylli Wiślanej (Vistula Flotilla Boulevard) – from Cypel Czerniakowski (the Czerniaków headland) to Poniatowski Bridge,
- Bulwar Bohdana Grzymały-Siedleckiego – from Poniatowski Bridge to Świętokrzyski Bridge,
- Bulwar gen. George’a S. Pattona (General George S. Patton Boulevard) – from Świętokrzyski Bridge to Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge,
- Bulwar Jana Karskiego (Jan Karski Boulevard) – from Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge to Gdański Bridge,
- Bulwar Zbigniewa Religi (Zbigniew Religa Boulevard) – from Gdański Bridge to Plaża Żoliborska (Żoliborz Beach).
Along the promenade you’ll find pergolas for shade, sail-shaped street lamps, a viewing point, a mini beach with trampolines and the Pavilion of Dance and Other Performing Arts. The whole stretch is accessible for people with disabilities and families with pushchairs, which matters if your group includes older guests or someone in high heels. On Bulwar Flotylli Wiślanej there’s also a year-round installation of 15 riverside lanterns.
What to do by the Vistula in Warsaw in the evening – fountains, the footbridge and a rooftop garden
If you have an hour to spare before or after the cruise, here are a few places that are easy to fit into your plans:
- The Multimedia Fountain Park (Multimedialny Park Fontann) in Podzamcze, between Boleść, Wybrzeże Gdańskie, Sanguszki and Rybaki streets. Shows run from May to the end of September, begin after nightfall and are free to watch – the perfect finale to an evening cruise.
- The Magdalena Abakanowicz Footbridge (Kładka Magdaleny Abakanowicz) – 452 m across the Vistula, from around Karowa Street to Okrzei Street. It takes about 6 minutes to walk across. In two places it widens out and has wooden seating with views of the river and the city centre, and the red line on its surface marks Warsaw’s zero meridian – a ready-made idea for a group photo.
- The rooftop garden of the University Library on Dobra Street – open to the public and covering more than a hectare, with views of Świętokrzyski Bridge and the Vistula from its walkways and terrace. Check the opening hours before you go.
- The Mermaid statue (Pomnik Syreny) at the junction of Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie and Tamka Street – a classic backdrop for a photo with Warsaw in the starring role.
Beaches on the Vistula in Warsaw – the Praga side
The right bank is wilder. A trail runs along firm woodland paths there, which you can walk or cycle to reach five city beaches: Tarchomin, Rusałka, Poniatówka, Saska and Romantyczna. For an evening before a party, the most convenient ones are those in the centre:
- Poniatówka – on the right bank right next to Poniatowski Bridge, close to the National Stadium. There are beach volleyball courts, deckchairs, hammocks and barbecue areas, and in the summer season the Pliszka ferry links the two banks. Concerts and open-air cinema screenings are held here in summer.
- Rusałka – a Praga beach linked by a seasonal ferry to Bulwar Karskiego, with deckchairs and a volleyball court.
- Plaża Saska (Saska Beach) – by Łazienkowski Bridge, with wicker pergolas and kayak hire.
- Plaża Romantyczna – in the Wawer district, at the end of Rychnowska Street; quieter and more out of the way.
Treat the beaches as a place for deckchairs, volleyball and sunsets rather than swimming – the Vistula’s current can be strong and unpredictable.
Meeting up before a boat party in Warsaw – how to play it
We agree the boarding point when you book, so choose a meeting point close to it. A few rules that will save you a lot of stress:
- Pick a spot everyone can find – the Mermaid statue, the entrance to the Copernicus Science Centre or the Karowa Street end of the footbridge.
- Share travel directions – metro line M2 has Centrum Nauki Kopernik station on Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie, near the boulevards and Świętokrzyski Bridge, and Stadion Narodowy station on the Praga side.
- Meet 30–45 minutes early – to allow for photos, latecomers and a relaxed walk on board. Every delay means less time on the water.
- Pack all the props in one bag – one person looks after the sashes, headbands, the present and the game cards.
- Think about getting home – the cruise ends at an agreed time, so it’s easy to plan an after-party or a pick-up for older guests. Decide in advance who’s ordering taxis and where you’ll meet once you’re back on dry land.
Drinking alcohol by the Vistula – what you need to know
In Poland, drinking alcohol in public places is generally banned, although local councils can introduce exceptions by resolution. In Warsaw, the city council has allowed drinking on the Vistula boulevards, but this is an exception for a designated area, not a rule for the whole riverbank – you can check the current rules on the city’s information portal (in Polish). The boulevards are a shared space, used by families and cyclists, so stick to water and snacks on the riverbank and save the toast for when you’re on board.
A Vistula cruise as the highlight of your evening in Warsaw
A stroll along the boulevards is a good warm-up, but the main event of the evening can be a private cruise. In Warsaw you hire the boat for 2 hours, and the departure time is agreed individually – in the afternoon, at sunset or in the evening. Packages start from €20 per person (Basic: the boat, music and the option to plug in your own playlist), with Star from €27 per person adding a light show, welcome drinks and snacks, and VIP from €36 per person including a DJ, a bartender or hostess and photo coverage. Prices apply to groups of 30 or more. You’ll find the details and all occasions on our Warsaw boat parties page.

Frequently asked questions – an evening on the Warsaw Vistula boulevards
Can you drink alcohol on the Vistula boulevards in Warsaw?
The city council has passed a resolution allowing alcohol on the Vistula boulevards, which is an exception to the general ban on drinking in public places in Poland. It doesn’t cover the entire riverbank, and the boulevards are a shared space – so it’s better to raise your glasses on board.
How do you get from the boulevards to the Praga beaches?
The easiest way is the Magdalena Abakanowicz Footbridge – about a 6-minute walk – or one of the bridges. Ferries also run in season, for example the Pliszka near Poniatówka Beach.
Where should we meet before the cruise?
Close to the boarding point, which we’ll confirm when you book. Good landmarks are the Mermaid statue by Tamka Street, the Copernicus Science Centre and the Karowa Street end of the footbridge.
When do the fountain shows in Podzamcze take place?
Shows at the Multimedia Fountain Park run from May to the end of September, after dark. Entry is free, and the city publishes the exact schedule.
How do I get to the Vistula by public transport?
The simplest option is metro line M2. Centrum Nauki Kopernik station is on Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie, near the boulevards and Świętokrzyski Bridge, while Stadion Narodowy station is on the Praga side, near Port Praski.
