A Katowice stag do often follows the same script: pub, another pub, club. If you want the groom-to-be to remember the day for longer, add a private cruise on the Pogoria lakes in Dąbrowa Górnicza, about 20 km from central Katowice, to the programme. Two hours on the water, your own music, cold drinks and a view no bar can match.
Below you’ll find a ready-made itinerary for the day, a comparison of the packages and a list of the logistics to sort out before the groom’s crew hits the town.
Katowice stag do – a Pogoria cruise instead of yet another pub
The boat is your private room with a lake view. No queue at the bar, no bouncers at the door and no strangers at the next table. You hire it for 2 hours, and the start time is chosen individually – in the afternoon, at sunset or in the evening. You’ll find general information about cruises for groups from Silesia on the BoatParty Katowice page.
Pogoria is four lakes in Dąbrowa Górnicza, created in former sand pits that once supplied sand to Silesia’s coal mines. If anyone in the group doesn’t know the area, point them to our guide to the Pogoria lakes. On a stag do, though, what matters most is having music, lights, toasts and room to party, all in one place.
The itinerary – a stag do in Silesia step by step
| Time | What you do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Afternoon | bowling, pool or a pub tour of Katowice with a guide or partymaker | a warm-up and time for everyone to arrive |
| Approx. 1.5 hours before the cruise | group transfer by minibus to Pogoria | nobody gets lost and the driver stays sober |
| Cruise (2 hours) | toast, challenges for the groom, music, sunset | the main event |
| After the cruise | back to Katowice for dinner or an after-party in the centre | the same minibus takes the whole crew back |
| Next day | a lazy breakfast and the journey home | accommodation booked in advance |
You can book a city guide or partymaker, as well as help with accommodation and transport, together with the cruise – that way you plan the whole day in one place. If you’re heading back to the centre, the obvious place to go is the area around the pedestrianised Mariacka Street, which has long been the heart of Katowice’s social scene.
Basic, Star or VIP – which package for a Katowice stag do
In Katowice, packages cost from €20 (Basic), from €27 (Star) and from €36 (VIP) per person for groups of 30 or more. Stag dos are often smaller affairs, so for smaller groups we prepare an individual quote.
- Basic – the boat for 2 hours and music, with the option to plug in your own. A good choice when you’ve got your own playlist and want to sort out the rest yourselves.
- Star – lighting effects with lasers, a welcome beer or 3 bottles of vodka, champagne or prosecco, 6 litres of soft drinks and juices, savoury snacks, a cooler with ice, cups and glasses. The option to bring your own alcohol is included in the price too.
- VIP – a welcome drink and 10 bottles of your choice, 20 litres of soft drinks, a bartender or hostess, a DJ with equipment, photo coverage and a Partymaker to run the programme.
We describe all the packages and extras on our page about stag dos on a boat in Katowice.
Onboard entertainment for the groom’s crew
Two hours go by in a flash, so it’s worth having a plan. A few ideas that work well on the water:
- a personalised banner with the groom’s name or the crew’s slogan – a backdrop for a photo that’s sure to make an appearance at the wedding,
- a flair bartending show to kick off the cruise,
- a challenge tournament: a quiz about the bride-to-be, team challenges and “forfeits” in the form of a shot of lemon juice instead of another round,
- a music or comedy act, or other extra entertainment on request,
- photo coverage or a keepsake HD film – so you’ve got something to show for it in a few years’ time.
You’ll find ready-made ideas in our round-up of 25 boat party games. If you’re still torn between a cruise, a party tram or a night at a club, we compare the options in our article boat, tram or club – what to choose for a stag do.
Stag do logistics near Katowice – transport and accommodation
- Transport. The most convenient option is a minibus from one meeting point in Katowice and back. The alternatives are Koleje Śląskie (Silesian Railways) S1 trains to Dąbrowa Górnicza (about half an hour) or the M2 metropolitan bus from the station, but then keep a close eye on return times.
- Guests from other towns. The S1 line directly links Gliwice, Zabrze, Chorzów, Katowice, Sosnowiec and Dąbrowa Górnicza, so some of the crew can get there without changing.
- Accommodation. If anyone is coming from outside Silesia – or flying in from abroad – book accommodation in Katowice in advance; we’re happy to help.
- Date. Send the form no later than 5 working days before the event; book summer weekends much earlier.
- The kitty. Agree up front whether the groom chips in, and collect everyone’s share before confirming the booking.
- Boarding point. We’ll give it to you when you book – only then confirm the route with your transport operator.
Rules for a stag do that ends well
A stag do isn’t a race. Drink in moderation and alternate toasts with water and snacks – soft drinks and juices are included in the Star and VIP packages. On board, listen to the crew, don’t sit on the side of the boat and don’t lean over it. Wear comfortable shoes with a good grip, because a deck isn’t a club dance floor.
No late-night dips in the lake after the cruise – the City of Dąbrowa Górnicza reminds visitors that swimming under the influence of alcohol is not allowed. Don’t drink on the beach or along the paths either, as drinking alcohol in public places is generally prohibited in Poland. And one more thing: sound carries a very long way over water, and the municipal police in Dąbrowa have already measured night-time noise levels at Pogoria. Keep the loud partying on board, and keep it calm on the way back to the minibus.
Frequently asked questions – a Katowice stag do on Lake Pogoria
Can we hire the boat for a stag do with a dozen or so people?
Yes. Package prices are for groups of 30 or more, and for smaller groups we prepare an individual quote. Send us an enquiry with your date and the number of people.
How long does it take to get from Katowice to Pogoria?
The Pogoria lakes are in Dąbrowa Górnicza, about 20 km from Katowice. The S1 train reaches Dąbrowa Górnicza station in about half an hour, and a hired minibus will take you right to the boarding point, which we give you when you book.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
With the Star package, bringing your own alcohol is included in the price; with the other packages, it can be added as an extra. Remember to drink in moderation – and the driver doesn’t drink at all.
What’s the best time to set sail on a stag do?
It depends on your plan. Starting about an hour and a half before sunset gives you the best light for photos – in mid-June the sun sets over Pogoria at around 20:55. If partying under the lights matters more to you, choose a later cruise and spend the afternoon bowling or playing pool in Katowice.
Can you help us plan the rest of the day?
Yes. We can arrange a city guide or partymaker – pubs, bowling, pool – as well as help with accommodation and transport for the whole crew.
A good stag do is a well-planned day: an active afternoon, two hours cruising on Pogoria and a safe journey home for the whole crew. Send us your date and group size, and we’ll prepare an initial offer and help you plan everything from the meet-up in Katowice to the after-party.
