A boat trip gift voucher is the perfect present for people who “have everything”. Instead of yet another thing, you’re giving them a celebration on the water that they can plan for a date that suits them. A BoatParty voucher is valid for 6 months, so there’s plenty of time to pick a date and round up the guests.
Here’s who this kind of gift works best for, which occasions it suits, how to present it and what to bear in mind when buying one.
A boat trip gift voucher – how it works
The voucher is an invitation to a cruise that the recipients use within 6 months. Cruises run during the season, from spring to autumn, so when you buy one, check that the validity period overlaps with the cruise season – that’s the most important thing to think through before you hand it over.
There are 9 cities to choose from: Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Poznan, Katowice (where the boat sails on the Pogoria lakes in Dąbrowa Górnicza), Bydgoszcz, Szczecin and Torun. The cruise lasts 2 hours. You agree the city, the approximate number of guests and the scope of the party when you send your enquiry, because we plan every event individually.
Before you buy a voucher
- Decide on the scale. A cruise for a couple and their friends, for the whole family or for a team? Package prices are given for groups of 30 or more, and smaller groups get an individual quote.
- Choose the city where the recipients live, or one they’re planning to visit anyway.
- Leave the timing open. The cruise can start in the afternoon, at sunset or in the evening – the recipients can match it to their guests.
- Pass on the booking rules. The actual cruise date needs to be booked at least 5 working days in advance, and for summer weekends in the season it’s worth getting in touch much sooner.
- Companies receive a VAT invoice, which makes accounting for staff rewards easier.
You’ll find indicative package prices for each city in our post on how much a boat party costs.
Who a boat trip voucher makes the perfect gift for
- The newlyweds – a gift from the maid of honour and best man or the wedding guests for a cruise with friends after the wedding.
- Parents or grandparents – celebrating a wedding anniversary with the whole family on board.
- Someone celebrating a milestone birthday – instead of chipping in for another gadget, a joint present from a group of friends, who then sail with them.
- A team at work – a reward for a successful project, a great result or a company anniversary.
- The bride- or groom-to-be – a voucher from their siblings as a “ticket” to their hen party or stag do.
- Someone retiring – a send-off with the team that’s less formal than a banquet.
A voucher works best for people who enjoy group outings and have a circle of friends they want to celebrate with. If the recipients prefer quiet, low-key gifts, be honest with yourselves and consider a different kind of present.
Which occasions – some examples
Wedding
A voucher from the guests is a gift the couple can use after the wedding, once things have calmed down – e.g. for a cruise with the people who helped organise it. In the card you can mention that a personalised banner with the couple’s names can be hung on the boat – it’s one of the add-ons you can order. It’s best to hand over the envelope with the voucher in person, e.g. at the “poprawiny” (the traditional Polish party on the day after the wedding) – in a pile of wedding presents it’s easy to overlook.
Wedding anniversary
Especially for milestone anniversaries such as a silver wedding (25 years) or a golden wedding (50 years), the whole family gets together. An afternoon cruise is a convenient time for older guests, and catering – hot, cold or barbecue – turns it into a family meal on the water. You’ll find inspiration in our post on a wedding anniversary on a boat in Poznan.
Birthday
For a 30th, 40th or 50th birthday, a voucher from friends turns into the party itself: the birthday boy or girl picks the date, and the guests know straight away that they’ll be sailing with them. We show how to plan a cruise like this using the example of a birthday party on a boat in Krakow.
Staff reward
A cruise voucher for a team is a reward everyone enjoys at the same time, and it brings people closer together along the way. HR can pick add-ons such as a personalised banner with the company name, team-building games or photo coverage, and a VAT invoice will serve as the accounting document. Decide beforehand whether you’re inviting the whole department or just the project team – the scale and the quote depend on it.
A voucher or a ready-made party – and what to add to it
A voucher gives the recipients a choice: they decide on the date, the time of the cruise and the guests themselves. It’s a better option than a surprise party when you don’t know their diary, or when you want them to be the hosts. A ready-made party with a fixed date, on the other hand, works when you want to surprise the guest of honour with a specific evening and you’re sure they’ll be free.
If you’d like to make the gift more complete, consider add-ons that stay in the memory for longer:
- photo coverage or a keepsake HD video – a souvenir of the cruise without anyone having to mind their phone,
- boat decorations and a personalised banner – with the names of the couple or the birthday boy or girl, or the company name,
- catering – hot, cold or barbecue, when the cruise is meant to replace a reception,
- a welcome drink and a red-carpet entrance – for a “wow” effect right at the start,
- a live performance or a flair bartending show – when you want to surprise the guests during the cruise.
How to present a cruise voucher
- In an envelope, like a ticket – print the voucher and add a postcard from the city where the cruise will take place.
- In a surprise box – the voucher hidden in a small box inside a bigger one, with a sailor’s cap or an anchor on top.
- With a riddle – at the party, announce a “present from all of us” and read out a rhyming riddle the recipients have to solve.
- With a ready-made plan – include a list of guests the recipients could invite and a few suggested dates.
- At a team meeting – hand it over with a short explanation of the reward, so everyone knows what they’re sailing for.
Whatever the format, write the expiry date of the voucher on the card – 6 months go by faster than you think. The easiest way to ask about a voucher is through the booking form: in the notes, say that it’s a gift, and give the city and the approximate number of people.
