A Gdansk hen party on a boat lets the whole group celebrate together – no queuing at the bar, no hunting for a table and no strangers on the dance floor. For two hours the boat is all yours, while the panorama of the city on the Motława glides past.
In this post we won’t repeat the price list – instead we focus on how to plan the evening step by step: what you gain compared with a club, how to put together a schedule and what the maid of honour needs to remember.
Gdansk hen party on a boat instead of a club – what you gain
A club is a good option for the second half of the night, but it often doesn’t work for the start of a hen party. The group drifts apart, someone else chooses the music, and you end up raising a toast in a crowd. On a boat, you make the rules.
| What matters | Night at a club | Boat cruise |
|---|---|---|
| Privacy | a room shared with other guests | a boat just for your group |
| Music | the venue’s playlist | you can plug in your own playlist, even with the Basic package |
| Photos | dark and crowded | townhouses and water in the background, best at sunset |
| Moments together | hard to get everyone together at once | the whole group on one deck for 2 hours |
In fact, you don’t have to choose. The cruise can kick off the evening, and you can head to a club or out for dinner afterwards. If the bride and groom want to meet up with both groups, take a look at our post on how to organise a joint stag and hen do on a boat.
Gdansk hen party plan – a sample schedule
It’s easiest to plan the day around the cruise. The plan below assumes a sunset departure – shift the times to suit the season and the departure time we agree when you book.
| When | What’s happening | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| afternoon | the group meets up, gets ready, small accessories | keep the bride’s sash and veil secret until the last minute |
| approx. 1.5 hrs before the cruise | a light dinner in the centre | eating something before the party is the key to staying on form |
| approx. 20 min before departure | an unhurried walk to the boarding point | in season the centre can get crowded – leave yourselves some spare time |
| 2 hours | the cruise: welcome, toast, games, dancing | take the group photo at the start, while it’s still light |
| after the cruise | an after-party at a club or dessert in the Main Town | agree in advance who leads the group on from there |
Watch out for big events. St Dominic’s Fair (Jarmark św. Dominika) takes place every year at the turn of July and August and fills the streets of the Main Town (Główne Miasto, the historic centre) for three weeks. The atmosphere is fantastic, but so are the crowds – during that time, arrange to meet with plenty of time to spare.
What you’ll see from the deck in Gdansk – a backdrop for your photos
The route is agreed individually, so the views depend on which way you sail. In the historic centre on the Motława they may include the water gates of the Long Embankment (Długie Pobrzeże), the medieval Crane, the rebuilt granaries on Ołowianka or the new quayside on Granary Island. You can read more about each of these places in our post Gdansk river cruise on the Motława – what you’ll see from the deck.
A few photo ideas that work well on the water: the whole group with the bride in the middle and the city skyline behind you, a toast shot against the light of the setting sun, and a short video of everyone dancing on deck. Hold your phone firmly and don’t lean over the side – no shot is worth the risk.
A theme for the night
A shared theme makes the photos look consistent and tells guests what to wear. For a cruise around the port city of Gdansk, a nautical look fits perfectly: stripes, white and navy, captain’s hats for the whole group and one standout hat for the bride. Another idea is a signature colour – we can decorate the boat in it and you can choose accessories to match. A memory game works well too: each of you brings one old photo of yourself with the bride, and during the cruise the others guess what occasion it was taken at.

We can arrange other attractions on request – just describe your idea in the form. The rules on bringing your own alcohol depend on the package, so talk them through when you book.

Maid of honour checklist – organising a hen party in Gdansk
- Guest list and budget. Collect confirmations and agree an amount per person – the quote depends on the number of guests.
- Date. Send the form no later than 5 working days before the event – and much earlier for a weekend in the summer season.
- The surprise. If the bride isn’t supposed to know where she’s going, mention it in your request and arrange to meet somewhere other than the boat.
- Programme. Prepare 2–3 games, e.g. a quiz about the couple – you’ll find inspiration in our round-up of boat party games.
- Outfit. Flat, comfortable shoes instead of heels, plus a light jacket or jumper for the evening on the water.
- Moderation. Water and snacks on board are a good idea. Remember, too, that drinking alcohol on quaysides and riverside promenades is generally prohibited in Poland – save the toasts for the boat.
- Getting back. Agree in advance how the group gets home or back to the hotel after the after-party, and save the address of your accommodation in the phone of every guest from outside Gdansk.
