A wedding on a boat in Warsaw is an interesting alternative to a traditional function room – especially for couples planning an intimate reception, or those who want to add something to their wedding day that their guests have never seen at any other wedding. You just need to choose the right format: you hire the boat for two hours, so a cruise works best as a reception for your nearest and dearest, a special highlight of the day or as poprawiny – the Polish tradition of a second party held the day after the wedding.
Below we describe four scenarios, a sample cruise plan, costs and practical details – from the bride’s shoes to getting older guests on board.
Wedding on a boat in Warsaw – four scenarios
An intimate wedding reception on the water
A ceremony at the registry office or in church, followed by two hours on the Vistula with your nearest and dearest: a toast, good wishes, catering, the first dance and photos with the city in the background. A good option for couples who don’t want a big venue and an all-night party.
A cruise as part of the wedding day
A cruise between the ceremony and dinner at the venue gives guests something to do while the couple are busy with their photo shoot or receiving congratulations anyway. You could also schedule it late in the evening as an “after-party” for those with stamina. In that case, agree with your wedding venue what time guests will return, and arrange transport between the boarding point and the venue – with a two-hour cruise, the timings are easy to work out.
Poprawiny – the day-after party on a boat
The day after the wedding, in a more relaxed atmosphere: barbecue catering, your own music or a DJ, and plenty of time for the conversations there wasn’t room for the day before.
A wedding anniversary or vow renewal
For a 10th, 25th or 40th anniversary, a cruise is often a gift from the couple’s children and friends – and a voucher valid for 6 months lets the happy couple choose the date themselves.
Planning a wedding reception on the Vistula in Warsaw – two hours step by step
Here’s a sample timetable for two hours on board at an intimate reception:
| Moment | What happens |
|---|---|
| Before boarding | Guests board first, the couple last – along the red carpet |
| 0:00–0:15 | Welcome drink, toast and good wishes |
| 0:15–0:50 | Catering and conversation with views of the city |
| 0:50–1:00 | A short speech from the best man or maid of honour |
| 1:00–1:10 | The first dance |
| 1:10–1:50 | The dance floor opens for all generations |
| 1:50–2:00 | Group photo and disembarkation |
For poprawiny, you can loosen up the same plan: fewer speeches, more music, and instead of a first dance, games together and photos with the guests you didn’t have time to chat to the day before.
If you’d like photos in warm light, choose a departure time before sunset – we agree it individually. We describe what you can see from the water in our guide to the Vistula river cruise route in Warsaw.
What you can order for a wedding cruise in Warsaw
We plan every special occasion individually. For a wedding reception you can choose:
- catering – hot, cold or barbecue,
- service – hostesses and bartenders, a welcome drink and a red-carpet entrance,
- the setting – a professional sound system, club lighting and boat decorations,
- a personalised banner – for example with the couple’s names,
- live performances – music, dance or cabaret acts, as well as a flair bartending show,
- keepsakes – photo coverage and a keepsake HD video,
- a dedicated Partymaker who keeps an eye on the timetable while you’re busy with your guests.
Choose music that works for every generation. With the Basic package you can plug in your own playlist; with VIP, a DJ with equipment takes care of the music. Prepare a list of must-play songs – for the couple’s entrance, the first dance and the finale – as well as the ones you definitely don’t want to hear.
If you’d like to cut the cake on board, mention it in your enquiry. You can read more about receptions and anniversaries on our special occasions on a boat in Warsaw page, and you’ll find the other occasions on our Warsaw boat parties page.
How much does a wedding on a boat cost? Prices and what they depend on
Pricing for special occasions is set individually – it depends mainly on the number of guests, the menu, the decorations and the entertainment you choose. Our Warsaw packages serve as a reference point: Basic from €20 per person, Star from €27 per person and VIP from €36 per person, quoted for groups of 30 or more. For a smaller group, we’ll prepare an individual quote. To give you a rough idea: 40 guests on the Star package is a starting point of approx. €1,080, plus any extras you choose, such as catering or a keepsake HD video.
For an accurate quote, include in your enquiry the date, the approximate number of guests, the time of the cruise and whether the boat is to be the main reception venue or one part of the day. We accept bookings up to 5 working days before the event, but with a wedding, don’t wait: weekends in the summer season are worth booking well in advance, and the earlier you book, the better the offer.
Our boat party planning checklist will make organising the whole thing easier.
Practical details: outfits, guests and formalities
- Shoes – stability is what counts on deck. The bride can board in heels, but a second, more comfortable pair will come in handy for dancing.
- Veil and hair – it’s windier by the water than in town, so ask your hairdresser for a firmer updo.
- A warmer layer – a shawl, bolero or blazer for the evening.
- Older guests – we agree the boarding point when you book; let us know if anyone has difficulty getting around.
- Invitations – say clearly that part of the reception takes place on a boat, so guests can choose their shoes and outerwear accordingly.
- Decorations – light, securely fastened arrangements work better than tall vases; you can order boat decorations as an extra.
- Photos – agree a list of must-have shots with your photographer: the couple with the city in the background, a photo with the parents and a group photo of all the guests.
- Children – always supervised by adults. Everyone follows the crew’s instructions and nobody leans over the side.
As for the ceremony itself: Polish law allows couples to marry outside the registry office (urząd stanu cywilnego, or USC) – at the couple’s request and for an additional fee. It’s the head of the registry office who decides whether the chosen location ensures a suitably solemn setting and safety, so an idea like this needs to be discussed with the office first. The simplest scenario is a ceremony on land and a reception on the water. You’ll find a list of things to bring in our post on what to bring on a boat party.
