A Torun birthday party on a boat brings several things together at once: a shared table, music to dance to and a view of the Gothic Old Town from the Vistula. For two hours the boat belongs exclusively to the birthday person and their guests – no strangers and no hunting for a venue.
In this guide we show you how to choose a cruise time that suits your guests, how to plan two hours on board and how to personalise the party so it’s truly yours.
A Torun birthday party on a boat – who is it a good idea for?
A cruise works especially well when your guest list spans different generations or different groups of friends. Everyone is in one place, nobody disappears into another room, and the changing view from the deck gives people who’ve only just met a natural topic of conversation.
- Milestone birthdays – 30th, 40th or 50th – when you want something more than dinner at a restaurant.
- Birthdays with friends – with music and dancing until late.
- A family party – calmer, in the afternoon, with catering.
- A surprise party – the enclosed space of a boat makes it easier to keep the secret until the last moment.
Torun adds its own backdrop: the walls, gates and towers of the UNESCO-listed Medieval Town. If the route agreed at booking runs along the Old Town, guests from out of town will get a quick lesson on Torun from the water along the way – Bridge Gate (Brama Mostowa) from 1432, the Cathedral of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist, the most imposing building on the skyline, and the ruins of the Teutonic Knights’ castle. After dark you can add the illuminated walls and the arches of the bridges. There’s no need to organise a separate sightseeing tour to show them the prettiest part of the city.
Afternoon or evening? Timing your birthday cruise in Torun
We agree the departure time individually – in the afternoon, at sunset or in the evening. It’s best to decide based on who you’re inviting:
| Time of cruise | Best for | Atmosphere |
|---|---|---|
| Afternoon | Family, older guests, a party with a meal | Relaxed, lots of light, good conditions for family photos |
| Sunset | A mixed crowd | The most beautiful light for the toast and a portrait of the birthday person |
| Evening | Friends, a dance party | The illuminated Old Town, a light show, a club atmosphere |
Remember your guests from outside Torun: Toruń Główny railway station is on the left bank of the Vistula, about 2 km from the Old Town. An evening cruise also means a late return – put the finish time in the invitation so everyone can plan their transport. We’ve described exactly what you can see from the water after dark in our article on the evening cruise on the Vistula in Torun.
What to include in the invitation to a birthday cruise
- The meeting time, not the departure time – ideally 20–30 minutes earlier.
- The place – only share it once the boarding point has been confirmed at booking.
- What to wear – comfortable flat shoes and something warmer for the evening on the water.
- The finish time – the cruise lasts 2 hours, so guests can easily plan their journey home.
- The RSVP deadline – you’ll need the number of guests for the quote and to choose a package.
Birthday cruise programme – how to plan two hours
Two hours is plenty of time if you have a plan, and very little if you don’t. A sample breakdown:
- First 15 minutes: boarding, welcoming the guests, the first toast.
- Up to the 45-minute mark: food and conversation – a good moment for the catering and a group photo while everyone is still together.
- Mid-cruise: short speeches, birthday wishes, memories. Decide in advance who will speak – two or three people is ideal.
- The big moment: singing “Sto lat” (the traditional Polish birthday song – literally “a hundred years”), the cake and the presents. It works best at sunset or against the illuminated skyline.
- The last half-hour: dancing and games. You’ll find ideas for games for guests of all ages in our list of boat party games.
While you’re at it, give a few people specific jobs: one stays in touch with the crew, another keeps an eye on the right moment for the cake, a third looks after the music or liaises with the DJ. The birthday person shouldn’t have to deal with anything except celebrating.
If you’re inviting older guests, remind everyone to wear comfortable shoes, to follow the crew’s instructions on board and not to lean over the side.
Personalising a birthday party on a boat: banner, decorations, keepsakes
The simplest way to make the boat look like a birthday party straight away is a personalised banner with the birthday person’s name or the party slogan, plus boat decorations in your chosen colours. You order both extras when you book.
And keepsakes? A photo report is included in the VIP package, and you can order one separately with the other packages – as well as a souvenir HD video of the cruise. Discuss the cake and anything else you’d like to bring on board with us when we’re finalising the details – we plan every event individually. On request, we can also arrange a live performance: music, dance or comedy.
Looking for a present for someone who prefers experiences to things? Consider a boat trip gift voucher – it’s valid for 6 months, so the recipient can choose their own date during the season.
How much does a Torun birthday party on a boat cost?
In Torun, package prices start from €22 per person for Basic, €29 for Star and €38 for VIP. They apply to groups of 30 or more and a 2-hour cruise. For a smaller number of guests we’ll prepare an individual quote.
- Basic – the boat and music, with the option to plug in your own playlist. A good choice when most of the budget is going on catering.
- Star – a light show with lasers, a welcome beer or 3 bottles of champagne, prosecco or vodka, 6 litres of soft drinks and juices, salty snacks, a red carpet and the option to bring your own alcohol.
- VIP – a welcome drink, 10 bottles of vodka, champagne or wine, 20 litres of soft drinks and juices, a dedicated Partymaker, a bartender or hostess, a DJ and a photo report. The birthday person doesn’t have to keep an eye on anything.
As a rough guide: with 30 guests, the Basic package comes to approx. €660 or more, Star approx. €870 or more and VIP approx. €1,140 or more for the whole cruise. The final cost depends on the number of guests and on extras such as catering or performances. You’ll find the details on our page about birthday parties on a boat in Torun, and an overview of all occasions on the BoatParty Torun page.
Torun birthday party on a boat – FAQ
Afternoon or evening – when should we plan a birthday cruise?
For a family party with older guests the afternoon works better; for a party with friends, go for the evening with the illuminated Old Town. A start just before sunset is a good compromise. The cruise lasts 2 hours, and we agree the departure time individually.
Can you organise a birthday party on a boat for fewer than 30 people?
Yes. Package prices apply to groups of 30 or more, and for smaller groups we prepare an individual quote based on the date and the number of guests.
Can we order food for a birthday cruise?
Yes, you can order catering for the cruise: hot, cold or barbecue.
Can the boat be decorated for a birthday?
Yes. You order boat decorations and a personalised banner, for example with the birthday person’s name, as extras when you book.
What should we tell guests in the invitation to a birthday party on a boat?
Give the meeting time (20–30 minutes before the start), the place once it’s been confirmed at booking, the finish time, a request for comfortable shoes and a warm layer, and the deadline for RSVPs.
