An 18th birthday boat party is a great answer to the question of how to celebrate turning 18 somewhere other than yet another hired function room. The boat is all yours, Warsaw glides past on either side, and the two-hour cruise gives the party a clear structure: the welcome, a toast, the cake, dancing and back on dry land at an agreed time – something the parents will appreciate, too.
Below we walk you through the planning step by step: from the guest list, through choosing a package and a time of day, to the rules on alcohol when some of the birthday boy’s or girl’s friends haven’t turned 18 yet.
18th birthday boat party in Warsaw – step 1: the guest list
Start by counting heads, because the quote depends on it. Package prices apply to groups of 30 or more, and for a smaller group we’ll prepare an individual offer – for example as part of our small groups offer in Warsaw.
Next to each name, note straight away whether the guest is 18 or over. This isn’t red tape: that one column in the spreadsheet will tell you how to plan the drinks and the toast (more on this in step 3). If some guests are under 18, it’s a good idea to have an adult family member on board who knows what’s been agreed and can talk to the crew if needed.
In the invitation, give a meeting time 20–30 minutes before departure. We agree the boarding point when you book, so only send it out to guests once the date is confirmed.
A surprise or planning together?
An 18th is often a surprise organised by parents or friends. If the birthday boy or girl isn’t supposed to know anything, choose someone to bring them along and ask the guests to arrive half an hour early. If you’re planning it together, hand over the playlist and the choice of dress code – it’s their night, after all.
Step 2: the cruise time and package for an 18th birthday
You hire the boat for 2 hours, and the departure time is agreed individually: in the afternoon, at sunset or in the evening. An afternoon cruise works well when grandparents and younger siblings are coming too. Sunset gives you the prettiest photos, while the evening brings the city lights and more of a club vibe.
| Package | Price per person | When it suits an 18th |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | from €20 | The boat and music, with the option to plug in the birthday boy’s or girl’s own playlist; a good choice when many of the guests are under 18 |
| Star | from €27 | A light show with lasers, soft drinks and juices, snacks, a red-carpet entrance, an ice cooler, cups and glasses |
| VIP | from €36 | A DJ with equipment, a bartender or hostess, a dedicated Partymaker and photo coverage – someone other than the parents runs the show |
To give you a rough idea: 30 people on the Basic package comes to approx. €600 or more, and on the Star package approx. €810 or more. That already covers the boat and music – and with Star, soft drinks, juices and snacks too – so when comparing with a hired venue, look at the total cost of the party, not just the hire fee.
The Star and VIP packages also include welcome alcohol, so with a mixed-age group, discuss how drinks will be served when you book. You’ll find the full description on our birthday party on a boat in Warsaw page.
Step 3: alcohol at an 18th – the rules when some guests are under 18
The law here is clear-cut. Polish law prohibits selling or serving alcoholic drinks to anyone under 18, and anyone selling or serving alcohol may ask for ID to confirm a person’s age if in doubt. The Polish Criminal Code also makes it an offence to encourage a minor to drink, for example by supplying them with alcohol or pressuring them into drinking.
This isn’t legal advice, just a reminder of the general rules. In practice, it comes down to a few simple decisions:
- Alcohol for adults only – the birthday boy or girl from the day they turn 18, and guests only if they’re already 18.
- ID at the ready – ask the guests who are over 18 to bring an ID document with them.
- A toast for everyone – alcohol-free sparkling wine or lemonade means nobody is left standing empty-handed.
- Keep track of the bottles – if you’re bringing your own alcohol, agree who’s responsible for it, so it doesn’t circulate around the deck unsupervised.
- An alcohol-free version – when most guests are under 18, the simplest option is to make the whole party alcohol-free and focus on music, food and games.
Step 4: entertainment for an 18th on the Vistula in Warsaw
An 18th has its fixed highlights: the birthday boy’s or girl’s grand entrance, the toast, the cake and the first dance of adult life. To go with the cruise, you can choose:
- a personalised banner with the birthday boy’s or girl’s name and a giant “18”,
- boat decorations in your chosen colours,
- photo coverage or a keepsake HD video – something you’ll look back on for years,
- catering – hot, cold or barbecue,
- live performances – music, dance or cabaret acts,
- games and activities – you’ll find ideas in our round-up of 25 boat party games.
We describe all the extras and occasions on our Warsaw boat parties page.
A dress code is a fun idea, too – for example, elegant black and white, or the birthday girl’s favourite colour – and it looks great in photos with the Vistula in the background.
If you’re planning a cake, agree when and how to bring it on board when you book. And if the family is looking for a present that won’t end up forgotten in a drawer, see how a boat trip gift voucher works – it’s valid for 6 months.
Step 5: logistics on the day of your Warsaw cruise
- Getting there – in the centre, metro line M2 is a big help: Centrum Nauki Kopernik station is on Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie, near the boulevards, while Stadion Narodowy station is on the Praga side.
- What to wear – comfortable shoes instead of high heels, and a warmer layer for the evening, as it can get chilly on the water.
- Safety – guests follow the crew’s instructions and don’t lean over the side; remind everyone of this at the start of the party.
- Getting home – the time the cruise ends is known in advance, so parents can plan to collect younger guests to within a quarter of an hour. If the guests who are over 18 want to carry on in town, plan the younger ones’ journey home separately.
- Booking – no later than 5 working days before the event; summer weekends are worth booking much earlier. You’ll find the form on our booking page.
We describe what you’ll see from the deck – from the Old Town to the National Stadium – in our guide to the Vistula river cruise route in Warsaw.
Frequently asked questions – 18th birthday boat party in Warsaw
Can alcohol be served at an 18th if some guests are under 18?
Alcohol must not be sold or served to anyone under 18. If some of the guests are minors, alcohol may only go to those who are already 18 – and if younger guests are in the majority, the simplest option is an alcohol-free party.
How much does an 18th birthday boat party in Warsaw cost?
Packages start from €20 per person (Basic), €27 per person (Star) and €36 per person (VIP) for groups of 30 or more. For a smaller group we’ll prepare an individual quote.
Can we play our own music?
Yes – the option to plug in your own music is already included in the Basic package. With the VIP package, a DJ with equipment takes care of the music.
How long is the cruise and what time can we set off?
You hire the boat for 2 hours. The departure time is agreed individually – in the afternoon, at sunset or in the evening.
Can we order a banner with the birthday boy’s or girl’s name?
Yes – a personalised banner on the boat, for example with their name and a big number 18, is one of the extras you can order when you book.
